Hi All
This is a page where anything can be discussed about the community garden!
Let me know if you have any trouble using it.

There has been at least one report of a tick attachment, presumably from the Garden. Be aware and check for these little creatures.
My tomatoes, and others, as well are developing yellow leaves, which seem to be an indication of a fungus. There are some fungicides that may prove to be helpful, but removing these diseased leaves (I believe) is the best treatment. One caution, however, is that if and when you do remove the leaves, DON'T LEAVE THEM ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR PLOT. The disease spreads easily and you have not really eliminated the problem. There is a trash bag available for all diseased plants, leaves, etc.
Although it is not imminent, everyone should be aware that - soon - the corn crop (Silver Queen) and the Okra planted as a "community" crop, will be producing ears of corn and pods of okra. We have not discussed a means by which we can, equitably, share the produce. I don't think that it will be an issue with the okra, as it really needs to be picked early and often, but the corn is different. If there is not a better plan proposed, we can get a count of the ears, divide the number by the number of gardeners and communicate that number to everyone. You could, then, pick your corn as your time permits.
Chef Ray is planning to build a Compost Bin, this Monday at 9:00 a.m. I plan to help and if you are interested and available, you could simply show up at the appointed time. This particular job doesn't seem to be too labor intensive, so - if there is a good turnout, we could begin work on cleaning the "old garden site", which has been part of our plans from the beginning. We had originally planned to use this space, which has VERY good soil, to plant Blueberries (?) in the fall. However, the recent potato digging was so popular that I would like to continue to plant red potatoes (for the community), next February. The most immediate use for the area will be as a PUMPKIN PATCH. If we can get at least a small section of the area cleared of weeds and grass, we can plant the seeds and watch them grow.
Stan, if you and your tiller are available Monday, the process will be much quicker; I can promise you that this soil is MUCH easier to till than the "concrete" that you tried earlier.
